How UnumPay Works
Bridging your Shopify store and your payment provider.
Connect it once and start accepting payments from customers everywhere.
Understand your payment needs
Answer four questions about markets, business type, settlement currency and payment methods before you shortlist a provider.
Read step 1 ↓Get a merchant account
Apply directly with your provider, submit documents, and receive the credentials that connect your account.
Read step 2 ↓Install and connect UnumPay
Install the app, follow your provider's integration guide, enter your credentials and run a test transaction.
Read step 3 ↓Understand your payment needs
Before comparing providers, get clear on what your store actually needs. UnumPay supports 40+ providers, and the right one depends entirely on how and where you sell. Work through these four questions and note your answers, then match them to the providers available in your market.
Where are your customers based?
Decide whether you need to accept payments locally, internationally, or both. Some providers are strongest in specific regions, others support global card payments.
- List the countries your orders come from today, and the ones you plan to sell into next.
- Local providers usually offer better approval rates and lower fees in their own market.
- Selling worldwide? You will likely need a global card gateway alongside a local one.
How is your business registered?
Providers set different requirements for companies, sole proprietors and individual or freelance sellers, and that affects which ones you are eligible for.
- Registered company: expect to submit registration documents and a company bank account.
- Sole proprietor or individual seller: check eligibility first, as some providers do not onboard individuals.
- Have your tax ID, national ID and bank details ready either way.
Which currency do you want to settle in?
Funds in your local currency, or accepting and settling in a foreign currency such as USD or EUR? Confirm the provider supports your preferred settlement currency.
- Decide which currencies customers pay in, and which currency you want in your bank.
- Ask about conversion fees when the two differ, as they are charged per transaction.
- Confirm the settlement timeline as well, for example T+1 or T+2.
Which methods will you offer at checkout?
Make sure your provider supports every method your customers expect at checkout.
- Cards across all major schemes for local and international checkouts.
- E-wallets, including Google Pay and Apple Pay, to cut drop-off on mobile.
- QR payments and bank transfers, which often convert best in your home market.
Get a merchant account
Once you know what you need, you apply for an account directly with your chosen provider.
- This step happens between you and the provider. It is separate from UnumPay.
- The account is what lets you collect payments, and it stays in your name.
- Providers use different names for the same thing, so do not let the wording confuse you, also called Merchant account, E-commerce merchant account and Payment gateway account.
How to get set up
Visit the provider's website or contact their support team directly.
Apply for a merchant or e-commerce account and submit the documents they require. This usually includes business registration or proof of identity, a tax ID if applicable, and your bank account details.
Wait for the provider to review and approve your application.
Once approved, the provider issues your credentials or API keys. These are tied to your account and are what you enter into UnumPay in step 3.
A note on fees and settlement
Fees and payout timing are set by the provider, not by UnumPay. Confirm both with them before you go live.
- Providers typically charge a fee per transaction, which can vary by payment method.
- Each has its own settlement timeline, such as T+1 or T+2, meaning how many days after a sale the funds reach your bank.
- Ask about any setup, refund, chargeback or currency conversion charges.
